The Clear Lake Farmers Market is searching for 2-3 Market Managers to ensure our markets run smoothly May through October. If you’re organized, love to socialize, are handy with a clipboard and details, and can spare half a Saturday every couple weeks, we think you’ll excel at being a Market Manager! 

Saturdays may be rotated between managers. This is a fantastic opportunity for high school or college students, retirees, or farmers market devotees with time to spare on Saturdays. There is potential for off-season work.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Market Manager is responsible for the day of market set up, coordination and communication on behalf of the market.  Market is held Saturday mornings mid May through the third weekend in October from 9:00 to Noon with approx. 1.5 hours of set up before and 1 hour of tear down after.

The Market Manager Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

-Communicate with Market Coordinator ahead of market day to plan layout and offer feedback from previous week

-Arrive at market sufficiently early to have all set up completed by 8:30 AM

-Assist  vendors, musicians, volunteers, youth vendors etc. to find their spots and be available to answer any questions

-Coordinate short term vendor stall assignments and adjust stall layout/assignments as necessary in the case of a park car or other obstacle

-Update “chalk” signs with info about music, special events, sponsors, and in-season produce based on weekly activities schedule

-Place all on site signage prior to market opening  (per layout plan)

-Set up canopy and power cord for musician

-Check youth vending schedule and bring out tables and canopies as needed

-Set up “welcome booth” and “special events booth” (i.e. set up tables, canopies, etc.)

-Manage & record Double Up Food Bucks program customer transactions and collect tokens and vouchers from vendors

After Market

-Return all equipment (tables, canopies, benches, signs, banner, flags, etc.) to the trailer.

-Ensure that the market area is clear and free of debris after market close

-Pick up any trash in the parking lot

General Responsibilities:

-Maintain open communication with the Market Board

-Attend board meetings to offer updates and suggestions as needed

-Act as a liaison between vendors and the Market Board

-Resolve any disputes that may arise between vendors, consumers and the community and notify the board as necessary

Communicate with North Iowa Local Food Coordinator to stay up to date on:

-Changes to stall diagram

-Payments, certificates of insurance and other information that needs to be collected from vendors at market

-Weekly events (music, youth activities, youth vending, and board member schedule, special events)

-Conducting vendor and customer surveys/counts at market as needed

Rules and Regulations:

-Maintain a good understanding of all market, state and local rules

-Enforce CLFM Rules & Regulations

-Monitor vendor compliance and resolve any issues with vendors and inspectors

-Respond to vendor questions and ask the Market Board / Coordinator for clarification if needed

-Report any violations to the Market Board or Market Coordinator for further action if necessary
